By default, EX's can also be cast by pressing the 1 and 2 keys, respectively. For example, if the EX for Bakko is on his Space ability, using that EX ( Shift+ Space) would block him from using the basic version of his Space until the cooldown is up.

By default, you can cast an EX by pressing Shift plus whatever ability it is an upgrade of. It is important to understand that when you use an EX ability, you are also invoking the cooldown on whatever basic ability it is an upgrade of. Each champion has access to 2 of these, and they can be an upgrade for any of the 5 first basic abilities.
The R ability always costs at least 25% energy and typically has a slightly longer cooldown.ĮX abilities are upgraded versions of a basic ability, and cost anywhere from 25%-50% energy to use. Generally, the LMB (Left Click) ability has no cooldown and is free to use as much as you want, but the other 5 all have varying cooldown times. The rest are only restricted by their Cooldown value. Each champion has access to 6 basic abilities, only one of which costs any energy.
